The National Informatics Centre is constituted by the Government of India for promoting informatics culture in all levels of the hierarchy both in the Central and State Governments. The National Informatics Centre has set up a nationwide Satellite based computer communication network which is called "NICNET". This NICNET connects all Central departments with State Government Secretariats, District Administration Headquarters and also some of the Public sector organisations in a single integrated network. NIC has developed a large number of informatics services for almost all sectors of the Government like economy, industry etc. The NIC has been intimately associated with the Supreme Court of India. Since last 4 years it has successfully implemented an information system to assist the Registrar of the Supreme Court in the matter of computerisation of cause lists, decisions and the like.
