Federal Supremacy in the Indian Constitution

The Indian Constitution has been the outcome of a comparative study of the various constitutions of the world. The Constitution-makers of India were imbued with the supreme idea of evolving an ideal Federal Constitution suitable for Indian conditions with all safeguards to surmount practical difficulties in the light of experience gained from the Constitutional History of other countries. We have in a large measure adopted the constitutional models of Canada, Australia and Eire, while retaining the British Parliamentary practice. The preamble to our constitution takes its impress from the American pattern. The presidential political system of the latter is however not adopted. But the American ideal of a Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution and provision for constitutional amendments is utilised in our Constitution.
