Grievance Redressal Committee - A Pious Platitude

The second Labour Commission recommended that every establishment would have a Grievance Redressal Committee consisting of equal number of workers and employer’s representatives. This Grievance Redressal Committee would be the body to which all grievances of a worker in respect of his employment including his non-employment would be referred for decision within a given time frame.
Accordingly, by Amendment No. 24 of 2010 to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 w.e.f. 15-9-2010 every industry having employment of 20 or more is required to set up a Grievance Redressal Forum which would have equal representatives from employee and employer. The Chairperson of such forum would be alternatively from employer and employee. If women are working in the industry then one woman representative would be required to be in the Forum.
