Introduction
Picketing is an act of posting pickets and implies patrolling with signs, banners and placards for the purpose of excluding others from the place. In short, the meaning of the word 'picketing' is, watching and dissuading those who want to go to work during a strike. Peaceful picketing is a very useful strike weapon by a union, designed to cause several results. Pickets outside of a struck firm call attention to the strike as a possible means of persuading potential replacements or strike breaker to reconsider any thoughts of working for the firm. Again another purpose or desired result of picketing is to alert the members of other unions to the fact that a labour dispute exists and to encourage them not to cross the picket line. It also connotes necessary and adequate measures to disallow co-operation by others for the normal function and flow of business.
