Test Identification of Suspects, Its Object, Procedure and Evidentiary Value

There is no provision in the Criminal Procedure Code or even in the Evidence Act for holding a test identification parade of the suspects in a criminal case but the proceedings of such parade are record of facts and facts establishing the identity of anything or person are relevant under S. 9, Evidence Act.
Generally, test identification parades are held in cases when the unknown offenders make good their escape at the time of occurrence and are arrested afterwards. The underlying principle behind such parades is to connect the suspect with the offence. Now-a-days it is resorted to in our country with a view to obtaining statements of witnesses for corroborative purposes and in order to satisfy Investigating Officers of the bona fides of the prosecution witnesses.
