‘When does the life begin?’ The question is very ticklish and perisistently been grappled with the concepts of ‘personhood,’ the ‘sanctity of human life’ and the moral dilemmas posed by the explosion of scientific knowledge. Two moments in time the time of conception and the time of birth provide the background to the knotty problem. Biologically, the moment of conception is a more accurate definition to the beginning of a new life, but this moment can never be precisely determined in normal and natural circumstances of human procreation, however since the time of birth is easily ascertainable and provides evidence to categorical entry into human society and to legal definitions of a ‘person,’ it is a convenient marker.2
