Q. Please tell us about your foray into law, your initialdays in profession.
As a lawyer, when I came to Nagpur, I had the advantage of my parents being lawyers, but they were practising in Mouffasil at Varora. I literally had nobody to support me, except off-course my senior late Mr SN Kherdekar, who was also my father’s friend, he practiced in Civil and Revenue side. I joined him and he used to pay me Rs.150, which in 1968 was enough for my sustenance. I had to literally furrow my own land. I still remember, that my first purchase as a lawyer was a table and four chairs for Rs.180 from my landlord. I set up my office on the very first day that I started practising in Nagpur. As an independent practitioner, one has to have patience, has to exert and put in a lot of labour. I used to work from 7:30 am till 11 pm. I was very fortunate that MrKherdekarinsisted that I have my dinner with him, that was a big support, but I was always present in the offi ....
