(A) Oudh Estates Act (1 of 1869) , S.3, S.4— Lord Canning's proclamation of 1858-Effect of. The effect of Lord Canning's proclamation of 15th March 1858 was to divest all landed properties from the proprietors in Oudh and to transfer them to and vest them in the British Government. The proprietary rights so confiscated were liable to be disposed of in such manner as the Government might have thought fit. Henceforth, therefore, titles to land in Oudh except in cases of the estates possessed by six persons named in the proclamation were to be traceable to a grant by the Government or to a grant by the grantee :(Para 170e) (B) Oudh Estates Act (1 of 1869) , Sch.1— Letter from Secretary to Government of India Foreign Department to Chief Commissioner of Oudh in Sch. 1-Effect of. The effect of the well-known letter of 10th October 1859 from the Secretary to the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Chief Commissioner of Oudh which is incorporated in Sch. 1 to the Oudh Estates Act, 1 of 1869, was to maintain in possession those talukdars who then were in possession under summary settlements entered into with them after the reoccupation of the province.
